By late 2025, Mixily was about to shut down. Rather than watch a tool I’d relied on for years disappear, I bought it.
That’s the short version. Here’s the longer one.
Key Takeaways
- Nick Gray acquired Mixily in January 2026, saving it from closure
- Core event hosting features stay free and ad-free
- Nine product improvements shipped in February 2026, with more in the pipeline
Why I Bought Mixily
I’ve been hosting events in New York City for over a decade. Happy hours, dinner parties, neighborhood meetups — I’ve probably run a few hundred of them. And for almost all of those events, I used Mixily.
What I always loved about it: you create an event page, share the link, and watch the RSVPs come in. That’s it. No friction, no weird monetization, no features designed to extract something from your guests.
When I found out Mixily was facing closure, I didn’t run a spreadsheet. I just knew I didn’t want it to disappear. So I bought it.
It wasn’t a calculated business decision. It was an emotional one — rooted in how much the platform means to the community organizers, neighborhood connectors, and everyday hosts who use it.

Above: me with Andrew Badr, Mixily’s founder, who built something worth saving.
What’s Already Changing
We shipped nine product improvements in February 2026 alone, all based on real user feedback:
- Rich text formatting in event descriptions — headings, blockquotes, and better structure
- Square photo banners — consistent 1:1 display across all devices
- Automatic 2-hour end time — set when you pick your start time (customizable)
- Recent locations — your three most-used venues appear automatically
- Guest email opt-out — guests can decline reminders while staying on the list
- Better time picker — the whole field is clickable now, not just a tiny icon
- Improved Unsplash defaults — searches default to “party” for faster event creation
- Contact list sorting — alphabetical by name or email
- Better hyperlink input — expanded URL field so links don’t get cramped
We also restored the duplicate event button and added Gmail login. Small things, but they add up.
Mixily Stays Free
Core event hosting — creating an event page, sending invites, tracking RSVPs — stays free. No ads, no paywalls on the basics. That’s not changing.
For hosts running more events or larger communities, there are paid plans:
- Free — 2 active events, up to 40 RSVPs each
- Lite ($19/mo) — 5 events, up to 100 RSVPs
- Pro ($29/mo) — 10 events, up to 250 RSVPs (most popular)
- Plus ($79/mo) — unlimited events, up to 1,500 RSVPs
Most casual hosts will never need to upgrade. The paid tiers are for community organizers running multiple events at once — the kind of people who are basically doing this as a second job. See the full Mixily pricing breakdown if you want details.
Why This Matters Beyond the App
In 2023, the U.S. Surgeon General issued an advisory on loneliness calling it a public health crisis. About half of American adults report measurable loneliness — and the fix isn’t an app. It’s people showing up for each other in person.
The hosts who use Mixily — the people organizing neighborhood happy hours, dinner parties, monthly book clubs — are doing something genuinely meaningful. They’re fighting loneliness one gathering at a time. My job is to make that as easy as possible, and to not get in the way.
Thank You
A huge thank you to Andrew Badr and all the Mixily users who supported this platform over the years. You built something worth saving, and I’m honored to carry it forward.

Is Mixily still free?
Yes. Core event hosting — creating an event page, collecting RSVPs, messaging guests — is free with no ads. Paid plans ($19–$79/month) exist for hosts who need higher limits or multiple simultaneous events.
What’s changed since Nick took over?
Nine product improvements shipped in February 2026 alone: rich text descriptions, square photo banners, automatic end time, recent locations, guest email opt-out, and more. The focus is on small frictions — the kind that make you hesitate before sending an invite.
Who is Mixily for?
Anyone hosting in-person events: casual hosts throwing a dinner party, community organizers running monthly meetups, and professionals managing large recurring events. If you want a simple way to send invitations and track RSVPs without fighting a complicated platform, Mixily is for you.
