Evite has been around since 1998. Partiful launched in 2020 and already has millions of users. Google named it Best App of 2024, TIME put it on the 100 Most Influential Companies list in 2025, and Apple liked it so much they built their own version. (Partiful publicly called them out for copying. Bold move.)
These two platforms are not even in the same universe. Evite is the old guard: email invitations, a huge template library, ads plastered on the free tier. Partiful is the new kid: text-based, social-first, totally free, and built for people who plan parties from their phone.

Where Evite shines is templates. Want a pre-designed invitation for a retirement party, Cinco de Mayo, or a unicorn birthday? They probably have five of them.
What is Partiful?
Partiful was founded in 2020 by Joy Tao and Shreya Murthy, who met at Palantir. It’s backed by $27 million in venture funding led by Andreessen Horowitz and has grown to millions of monthly active users.
The whole platform is free. No paid tiers, no ads. Every feature is included: animated event pages, RSVP tracking, text blasts, photo albums, date polling, payment collection, co-hosts, and capacity limits with automatic waitlists.
The design is very Gen Z. Animated backgrounds, pop-culture themes (Charli XCX “brat” covers, Shrek in sunglasses), custom fonts, emoji reactions. It feels more like a group chat than a formal invitation.
Invitations go out via text, not email. Guests tap a link, enter their phone number, and RSVP. No account needed, no app download.

Evite has thousands of designs for every occasion from baby showers to bar mitzvahs. Superhero birthday? Hawaiian luau? Holiday cookie exchange? They’ve got multiple options for each, ready to customize.
Partiful’s designs are fun and trendy, but they’re organized by aesthetic, not occasion. You’re picking a vibe, not a theme.
People over 40 already know what Evite is
Your parents know what an Evite is. Your boss knows what an Evite is. If your guest list spans generations, the email-based approach and brand recognition mean less explaining.

Text-based invitations get faster responses
Texts get read. The open rate on text messages is around 98%, compared to roughly 20-30% for email. For casual events where you need quick RSVPs, Partiful’s approach means less chasing people down.
Evite’s email invitations sometimes land in spam folders. This comes up over and over in Trustpilot and Sitejabber reviews: guests never got the invitation even though Evite showed it as “sent.” That’s a frustrating problem when you’re trying to get a headcount.
Modern design that actually looks good
Partiful’s event pages look current. Animated backgrounds, custom fonts, playful layouts. You’d actually want to share these on Instagram.
Evite’s templates work, but they look dated. The clip-art aesthetic hasn’t changed much in the last decade. Put an Evite invitation next to a Partiful event page and you’ll see it immediately.
Social features that build buzz
Partiful makes RSVPing social. Guests see who else is going, which creates a snowball effect. The activity feed shows comments, GIFs, and photos. “Boop” lets you send a single emoji to another guest. (Think Facebook Poke, but less weird.)

Delivery is unreliable. User reviews on Trustpilot and Sitejabber keep saying the same thing: invitations go to spam or never arrive at all. For an important event, you might need a backup plan.
And the upselling is relentless. Premium prompts during event creation, gift card suggestions, upgrade teasers. The free experience feels like a funnel.
Partiful’s drawbacks
It’s not built for formal events. The playful aesthetic doesn’t fit weddings, corporate events, or formal dinners. If you need elegant, look elsewhere.
It’s very iOS-heavy. About 95% of downloads are on iOS. The Android app exists but feels like an afterthought.
Stability can be shaky. User reviews mention freezing and crashes, especially when multiple GIFs load at once or when editing event dates.
Guests need to share their phone number to RSVP. Some people aren’t comfortable with that, especially for events where they don’t know the host well.
And if your event needs a long description with detailed instructions, the character limits on event details can be frustrating.
