Event Spotlight: Mixily Presents

Several months ago, in the context of the pandemic and amidst the resurgence of Black Lives Matter, Mixily sponsored two nights of new theatre under the title of Mixily Presents. 

Thanks to our guests and sponsors, Mixily Presents: 

• Raised $2,8000 for The Actors Fund and The Center for Disaster Philanthropy 

• Sponsored a Matching Grant of $2,8000 to Black Visions Collective

• Entertained 120 Audience Members

• Paid 31 Artists During a Pandemic  

The first evening spotlighted a digital, modern retelling of MEDEA, created by Ricardo Beaird in collaboration with Megan Burns, Daisuke Kawachi & Connor Lane. 

Our second evening was called BEYOND THE FRAME, and was a collection of five innovative 10-minute pieces:

• The Night of the Pink Supermoon, by Bruce Jones

• Even the Sun, by Isabella Uzcátegui 

• American Courage in a Fulfillment Center, by Casey J. Adler

• First in Half, then in Quarters, by Louisa Pancoast & Diego Funes

• Slime Season, by Dan Caffrey

We learned a lot regarding producing theatre, supporting artists in a digital transition, and having a small escapist reprieve during the start of what’s turned out to be a transformative year.

In the upcoming series of blog posts, we’ll document the art, spotlight the amazing artists we worked with, and reflect on what we learned along the way. 

We can’t wait to keep exploring and offering ways to connect, no matter the season.
