Whether you’re planning a backyard barbecue, a networking mixer, or a virtual game night, you can have your event page live and ready to share in under five minutes.

Let’s get this party started.

Why Use Mixily for Your Event?

Before we walk through the steps, here’s why thousands of hosts choose Mixily:

  • 100% free for basic events — create unlimited events, send unlimited invitations, collect unlimited RSVPs
  • No ads, ever — your event page looks clean and professional
  • No guest accounts required — your friends RSVP with just their name and email. No downloads, no sign-ups, no friction
  • Works for any event type — in-person, virtual, or hybrid
  • Built-in ticketing — sell tickets with Stripe integration if you need to
  • Beautiful event pages — your event looks great on any device, automatically

If you’ve been using Facebook Events and feel frustrated by low visibility, or if you’re tired of group texts where nobody commits — Mixily solves both problems. For more on how online RSVPs work, check out our complete guide.

How to Create an Event on Mixily (Step by Step)

Head to mixily.com and click “Create Event.” You’ll be walked through everything. But here’s a detailed breakdown so you know exactly what to expect.

Step 1: Add a Cover Photo

First thing you’ll see is the option to upload a cover photo. This is the banner image that appears at the top of your event page.

A few tips:

  • Use a square (1:1) image for the best results — Mixily’s banner is optimized for this ratio
  • Pick something eye-catching. A photo from a past event, a fun graphic, or even a simple text-based image works great
  • Don’t have a photo? No problem. Mixily will use a default design that still looks good

Step 2: Write Your Event Title

Keep it clear and specific. “Sarah’s 30th Birthday Party” is better than “Party!” And “Neighborhood Block Party — June 14th” is better than “Get-Together.”

Your title is what people see first. Make it obvious what the event is. Need help with wording? Our invitation wording guide has tons of examples.

Step 3: Choose Free or Ticketed

Mixily lets you create two types of events:

  • Free events — guests RSVP at no cost. Perfect for parties, meetups, and casual gatherings
  • Ticketed events — charge admission through Stripe. Great for workshops, classes, fundraisers, or any event where you want to sell tickets

You can always change this later, so don’t stress about it.

Step 4: Set the Date and Time

Pick your event’s start date and time. Mixily’s time picker automatically suggests an end time two hours after your start — which is perfect for most gatherings. You can adjust the end time to whatever works for your event.

Pro tip: if your event spans multiple days or you want to leave the end time open, you can remove the end time entirely.

Step 5: Add a Location

Type in your venue and Mixily will auto-suggest addresses. You can choose:

  • A physical address — shows up with a map on your event page
  • A Zoom or video call link — paste your meeting URL for virtual events
  • A custom location — type anything you want, like “Meet at the park entrance”

Mixily also remembers your recent locations, so if you host regularly at the same spot, it’s just one click.

Step 6: Write Your Event Details

This is where you tell guests everything they need to know. What to bring, what to wear, where to park, what to expect.

Mixily’s details field supports rich text formatting — bold, italic, links, and bullet points. Use this to make your description scannable and easy to read.

A good event description answers these questions:

  • What’s the event about?
  • What should guests bring or prepare?
  • Is there parking nearby?
  • Any special instructions?

Don’t write a novel. A few short paragraphs with bullet points works best. If you want a framework for planning your event details, grab the free party checklist from Party.pro.

Step 7: Set Ticket Pricing (Ticketed Events Only)

If you chose a ticketed event, you’ll set your ticket price here. You can create multiple ticket tiers — like “Early Bird” and “General Admission” — and set different prices for each.

Payments are processed through Stripe, so your money goes directly to your account. Mixily doesn’t take a cut of your ticket sales on the free plan.

Step 8: Customize the Confirmation Message

After someone RSVPs, they see a confirmation message. This is a great place to add last-minute details, a personal thank-you, or a reminder to add the event to their calendar.

Something like: “Thanks for RSVPing! Can’t wait to see you. Don’t forget to bring a dish to share.”

Step 9: Add Promo Codes (Optional)

Running a ticketed event? You can create promo codes that give guests a discount. This is perfect for:

  • Early supporters or VIPs
  • Social media promotions
  • Friends-and-family discounts
  • Influencer or partner collaborations

Step 10: Configure Event Options

Before you publish, check the event options. Here you can control things like:

  • Guest invitations — allow guests to invite other people
  • Plus-ones — let guests bring a date or friend
  • Guest list visibility — decide if attendees can see who else is coming
  • RSVP limits — cap the number of guests if you have a space constraint

These settings give you full control over how your event works. Set them up once and you’re done.

Customizing Your Event Page

Once your event is created, you can go back and fine-tune everything. Your event page is a shareable URL that looks great on phones, tablets, and desktops.

A few ways to make it stand out:

  • Update your cover photo — swap in a better image anytime
  • Edit your description — add more details as the event gets closer
  • Add co-hosts — invite friends to help manage the event
  • Adjust RSVP settings — change your options as your plans evolve

Everything is editable after publishing. You’re never locked in.

Sharing and Inviting Guests

Your event is live. Now let’s get people there. Mixily gives you several ways to spread the word:

Email Invitations

Add email addresses directly in Mixily and send beautiful invitation emails with one click. Guests get a clean, professional email with all the event details and a big RSVP button. No spam, no clutter.

Share Your Event Link

Every Mixily event has a unique URL. Copy it and share it anywhere — text messages, group chats, Slack channels, Discord servers, newsletters. Wherever your people are.

Social Sharing

Share directly to Facebook, Twitter, or other platforms. Mixily generates a preview card with your event photo and title, so it looks polished in anyone’s feed.

Managing RSVPs and Guest Communication

This is where Mixily really shines. Once RSVPs start rolling in, you’ve got powerful tools to stay organized.

  • Real-time RSVP tracking — see who’s coming, who declined, and who hasn’t responded yet
  • Message all guests — send updates, reminders, or last-minute changes to everyone at once
  • Automatic reminders — Mixily can remind guests about your event so you don’t have to chase people down
  • Guest list exports — download your guest list if you need it for check-in or planning

No more spreadsheets. No more “wait, who said they were coming?” Mixily handles the tracking so you can focus on the actual event. If you want to learn more about managing RSVPs effectively, we wrote a whole guide on online RSVPs and how to track them.

And for general RSVP etiquette tips you can share with your guests, Party.pro has a helpful breakdown.

Using the Event Dashboard

Your event dashboard is your command center. Here’s what you can do from it:

  • View your guest list — sorted by RSVP status (attending, declined, pending)
  • Send messages — email all guests or specific groups
  • Edit event details — change anything about your event, even after publishing
  • Track ticket sales — for paid events, see revenue and ticket counts in real time
  • Duplicate your event — hosting a recurring event? Duplicate it with one click and save yourself the setup time

The dashboard is designed to be simple. You shouldn’t need a tutorial to use the tutorial tool. Everything is clearly labeled and easy to find.

Free vs. Pro: When to Upgrade

Mixily’s free plan is genuinely generous. You can create unlimited events, send unlimited invitations, and manage unlimited guests. Most people never need to upgrade.

But if you’re hosting frequently or want extra polish, the Mixily Pro plan gives you:

  • Custom branding — remove Mixily branding and add your own logo
  • Custom domains — use your own URL for events
  • Priority support — get help faster when you need it
  • Advanced features — additional customization and control options

If you’re a casual host throwing a birthday party or game night, the free plan has everything you need. If you’re a business, organization, or frequent event host, check out Pro to see if it’s a good fit.

Tips for a Successful Event Page

After helping thousands of hosts create events, here’s what we’ve learned works best:

Use a great photo. Events with a cover photo get significantly more RSVPs than events without one. Even a simple, well-lit photo makes a difference.

Write a clear title. Include what kind of event it is, and consider adding the date. “Jake’s Housewarming — March 8th” tells people everything they need to know at a glance.

Keep your description short. Three to five sentences is usually plenty. Use bullet points for logistics like parking, what to bring, and dress code.

Send invitations early. Give people at least two weeks’ notice. Three weeks is even better for bigger events. People’s calendars fill up fast.

Follow up. Use Mixily’s messaging feature to send a reminder a few days before the event. A short “Can’t wait to see everyone Saturday!” goes a long way.

Make it easy to share. Encourage your confirmed guests to share the event link with friends. Word-of-mouth is still the most powerful way to fill a room.
