Virtual Thanksgiving Activities
Thanksgiving is going to look quite different this year. Anthony Fauci, M.D., director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, has been discussing the “risk/benefit ratio” of getting together in person - and for safety, many families will be celebrating Thanksgiving virtually. If you are planning on meeting in person, be sure to wear a mask, wash your hands, keep 6ft distance and take the appropriate safety measures. If you’ll be celebrating the holidays from your own home, you can still create a memorable gathering. Here are some ideas for virtual Thanksgiving activities for a fun day with friends and family.
1) Host a themed movie watch party with friends and family virtually. Pick a movie, a food and drink menu, and all plan to hit play at the same time. Go for a classic fall movie like You’ve Got Mail or A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving. By watching the same movie and eating the same food and drinks, it will feel like you’re all together IRL.
2) Plan a virtual crafts or cooking session, with one guest leading or hire an independent creator to host the session so all guests can follow along. One of our Mixily hosts, ZaZa’s kitchen offers private cooking classes, or hire The Barlesstender for an interactive cocktail lesson. Want to focus on something other than food or drink? Pick a Thanksgiving craft like making pom poms, painting ceramics or creating silly Turkeys out of paper and popsicle sticks. Doing a shared activity together will make the day feel much more special than a typical Zoom meeting.

3) Organize a cooking competition and have relatives compete. Select a Thanksgiving dish, such as pumpkin pie, and challenge each household to cook it with a spin, then show off your creations online. You can select one family member to be the judge and select a winning dish for most creative. It will be disappointing you won’t all be together to taste your creations, but it will still be a good laugh, and you’ll each get to enjoy your dish!
Enjoy safely celebrating this Thanksgiving with your friends and family.
